One-third of domestic automobiles are equipped with seat fabrics manufactured by Kawashima, the seat fabric pioneer.

In the latter half of the 1950's, the Tokyo metropolitan area introduced its expressway network plan and the full-fledged "automobile society" began to emerge.  With the experience gained supplying interior fabrics for the vehicles of the Imperial Household and seat fabrics for the automobiles of the Occupation forces, Kawashima was able to focus on serving the seat fabric market.  In the early stages, the company began negotiating with automobile manufacturers,  In 1955, Kawashima first began supplying seat fabrics for the Nissan Austin, eventually establishing a track record with all automobile manufacturers.

Today, Kawashima's seat fabrics command the largest market share in Japan and are used in one-third of all domestic automobiles sold today,  Furthermore, Kawashima has acquired registration of certification under three international standards; the ISO 9001 and QS-9000 international quality assurance standards and the ISO 14001 international standard for environmental management systems.  Notably, we attained these milestones earlier than any other domestic fabric manufacturer.  To satisfy automobile makers' stringent requirements for quality, cost and delivery schedule, and to meet customer expectations of the pioneer in the industry, Kawashima will continue to demonstrate the spirit of a company that has been responsible for a wide range of improvement and innovations since its establishment.
